Sorting Matters: Let’s Work Together for a Greener Campus

At Assumption School, we strive to be socially responsible citizens, and one way we live this out is by caring for the environment. Our 4th graders, under the guidance of Ms. Blum, have been leading the charge in teaching proper sorting of compost, recycling, and landfill waste. Their enthusiasm has been contagious, but it’s clear that we could all use a refresher—teachers, parents, staff, and students alike!

This effort has never been more important. Did you know that even a small amount of contamination in our compost or recycling bins means the entire contents are sent to the landfill? In addition to the environmental impact, improper sorting could result in fines for our school.

Thankfully, we’ve received two generous grants to support this initiative. In the coming year, we’ll be introducing color-coded bins, updated signage, and training to ensure everyone knows how to sort waste correctly. These new resources will help us build better habits, but the responsibility starts now—with each of us making a conscious effort to sort our waste properly.

Let’s commit to working together to protect our planet and model environmental stewardship for our students. A little effort goes a long way! Stay tuned for updates as we roll out these exciting changes.
