San Leandro has been celebrating at it's annual Cherry Festival since 1909. The 2024 Cherry Festival will kick off on June 1 at 10 am with a parade that starts in the San Leandro BART parking lot and ends at the San Leandro Public Library parking lot.
The parade runs about one mile in length and takes about one hour. Assumption School will have a student packed float in the parade, with a walking group of family and friends that follow.
Assumption CYO also has an entry in the parade this year! Coach Erica Benjamin (2nd grade girls basketball coach) and Coach Gunter Mihaescu (5th grade girls basketball coach) will be walking with a CYO banner. Our Cheer Team will follow the CYO walking banner and will perform a cheer for the parade judges while a group of CYO family and friends follow.
The festival is from 11 am to 6 pm. Please stop by our booth to say hi, talk to passersby about Assumption School, Assumption CYO, and Assumption Parish - and make a craft!

Waivers will be at the float this Saturday morning. All students hoping to ride on our float must be wearing full uniform and have a signed waiver. Adults walking behind the school float should wear Assumption gear, or a blue or white shirt. Assumption CYO athletes and coaches should wear their athletic uniform or Assumption CYO gear. CYO parents and freinds should wear CYO gear or a blue or white shirt.
There will be very limited street parking available close to the parade staging area. Plan ahead! Please use the San Leandro BART entrance on Parrott Street or Thornton Street to find us. The parade concludes at: the San Leandro Main Library (300 Estudillo Avenue). There will be no reserved parking for parade pick-up available at the Main Library Parking Lot; slots will only be available for library patrons. Here is the parade route and map:
Lastly, after the parade, the festival kicks off at 11 am and goes until 6 pm. We will have a booth and we'd love to have you swing by to say hi, help us talk about our amazing school, CYO program, and our parish.
