Campus Ministry raises money for Hurricane Ian victims

This month on November 18, the Assumption Campus Ministry team will be hosting a pumpkin pie and apple cider sale for the victims of Hurricane Ian. A large slice of pie (⅛ of a 12 by 12 112 square inches) will cost $5, an 8 oz cup of warm cider will cost $2, and a combo meal of cider and pie will cost $6. Pies will come with whipped cream if requested. Students will pre-order their pies and cider through order forms, which will have a list of options for students to check off. Students in TK and K will have to have a parent signature on the form. This will not be required for the rest of the grades. On the day of the sale, students from grades 1-8 will pick up their pies in the small hall during dismissal. Grades TK and K will be served during lunchtime.

Hurricane Ian, which attacked Florida and hit Cuba, has caused a tragic amount of damage. Thousands of people had to reside in emergency shelters and stadiums, their homes having been flooded or leveled by 150 mile per hour winds. Not only this, but the areas in Florida hit hard by the hurricane were already in a housing crisis. Officials say at least 127 people have died. In Cuba, the hurricane destroyed close to 8,000 homes, and damaged another 77,000. The damage done by Hurricane Ian is tremendous and costly.

Assumption School hopes to help by donating the profits of the fundraiser to the American Red Cross, a non profit humanitarian organization. The profits will provide food, shelter, and comfort for the victims who have been suffering.

Not only this, but the pumpkin pie and cider will be a wonderful seasonal treat for students to enjoy as a break from hard work at school. Don’t forget to bring money attached to your pre-order form before or on November 16, when order forms will be collected by teachers.

Thank you for your generous support!
