From Jan Kehoe, Assumption Parish Blood Drive Coordinator:
Happy Fall, y'all!
We are scheduled for our blood drive at the Assumption gym from 8 am to 2 pm on October 8 (not this weekend).
I do still have appointments to fill. Email me at [email protected] to sign up for these times. (This drive doesn't have the ability to do drop-in so appointments only):
11:00, 11:30 (2 appointments), 11:45 (2 appointments), 12:30 (3 appointments), 1:15 (1 appointment), and 1:30 (2 appointments).
Please ask around--ask your family (especially those kids over 16--we need to add some younger donors), your neighbors, your co-workers, your workout/walking buddies (not the four-legged ones, although I found out recently that dogs do also donate blood ).
I recently received an email from the Red Cross about one of the travel deferrals (related to Mad Cow disease) that is being changed:
- The Red Cross will eliminate the deferral of donors who spent time in the UK, Ireland or France from 1980 to 2001, who were previously considered to have geographic risk of possible exposure to vCJD.
- The Red Cross will also eliminate the deferral for individuals who received a blood transfusion from certain European countries from 1980 to present
So if you know anybody that hasn't been able to donate because of travel to UK, Ireland or France, please let me know and I will reach out to them and see if they might be eligible now. Won't that be great to add more donors to the base?
As always, start your hydration and bulk up on those iron foods! Please remember to bring your ID (Red Cross donor card--it's in the app or CDL) and you can fill out your Rapid Pass in the morning before coming to donate.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great couple of weeks, and see you on the 8th!
Thanks,
