My name is Néha Gupta and I'm currently a first year undergraduate student at UCLA studying Neuroscience. I graduated from Assumption in 2016, and have always loved painting (especially when being taught by the fabulous Ms. Sweeney at Assumption). Last summer, a lot of the injustices present in our country were being brought to light, and my friend Lucinda and I wanted to paint a mural honoring Americans who are often marginalized and discounted. It took a while to find a location for our mural, but the wonderful Sistas Soul Food Kafe on Bancroft was more than happy to have us use their side wall for our work, and we were able to finish the mural by late fall! The title of the mural is "Soul Sistas– United We Rise" and it celebrates women of color, whose achievements and beauty are frequently underrepresented in society and media.
