Catholic Schools Week celebrates pillars of Assumption School

On Sunday, we presented the graduating Class of 2020 to the Church of the Assumption at the 9 a.m. Liturgy. Our sixth graders sang beautifully as part of our choir and we presented four recipients of the Marnelle Ducey Scholarship.

On Monday, as lifelong learners, students in different classes met in buddy pairs to celebrate literature. We also welcomed Patrick Landeza, an accomplished Hawaiian musician and author, to talk about his experience and success. In the two grade level assemblies, he shared his gift of song and shared his personal story of discovery and acceptance in connection with his Hawaiian culture.

On Tuesday, students learned from our community helpers of San Leandro with Community Helpers Day. The rain didn't stop visitors from Sulphur Creek Nature Center, San Leandro Library, San Leandro Fire Station 9, San Leandro Police, Caltrans, and Royal Ambulance sharing their careers, their organizations, and how students can support being socially responsible citizens.

On Wednesday, the entire school joined together to celebrate being kind to each other and working together with a fun game of Buddy Bingo. Winners of bingo won free dress passes.

We are excited to celebrate our effective communicators with our annual Oratorical Fest. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade have been chosen by their classes to recite powerful, funny, or lyrical poems from different authors. This festival will take place in front of family, friends and the school tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.

On Friday, our last day of Catholic Schools Week, our Student Leadership Team announced Superhero Spirit Day. We will gather together as faith families to learn about the importance of "Miraculous Medals" in our Christian faith, assemble a personal one, then gather together to celebrate superheroes that inspire us.

Each day has been and promises to be memorable for our students.
